Natalia Biegaj, MA Character Animator

Fine Artist, Art Director, 2D animator

I'm a 2D artist who specializes in art directing and producing high quality short animated films.

 

Artistic and unique, hand-drawn frame by frame animations are the essence of my creation. I work on most projects independently, supervising the entire creative, artistic and implementation process.

 

My duties include: coming up with creative ideas for artistic and engaging animated films based on scripts, creating hand-drawn storyboard to visualize the stories, creating concept art, character design, background design, creating animation, synchronizing animated film with voice-over file, editing, providing the completed animated film.

Bio and work experience:

My first professional work experience took place during my Bachelor studies.

I completed a professional practice at production company and animation studio Sherbet by creating short animated sequences and illustrations for the first full-length animated documentary for BBC television titled Wonderland – The Trouble With Love And Sex, under the art direction of two-time BAFTA award winning animator Jonathan Hodgson.

For Katy, the Bachelor’s project directed, art directed, designed and animated by myself was the 3rd place 2D winner of the 7th Toronto International Student Animation Festival and was screened on 16 International Film Festivals.

I started working as a freelance animator while continuing my postgraduate education in animation at Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London. During my postgraduate studies I perfected my skills in traditional 2D, digital and 3D animation, film language, acting, drawing and more.

During the studies I was involved in creation of a short animated film The Planning Game. The film was screened at Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in the UK Pavilion in China in 2014. The film became a Semifinalist at Adobe Design Achievement Awards.

 

In the same year, I graduated with Master of Arts degree specialized in Character Animation (Distinction). My Master’s project, 2D animated film The Door is Always Open directed, art directed and created by myself has been appreciated and screened at a number of film festival. Until now, my hand-drawn animated films have been shown at over 20 different International film festivals.

After graduation, I continued working as an independent artist creating projects for individual clients, creative agencies, film and animation studios, international corporations and YouTube artists. Please check here to view some of my clients. I took part in a number of artistic contests. In 2016, I was a winner and became a Selected Artist in two Creative Invites organized by Talenthouse art platform. In 2017, I was a Selected Artist in Creative Invite called Create a lyric video for RAM Truck and my lyric video took part in the RAM Truck Long Live campaign.

In 2016, the HocTok a Brooklyn based arts & culture magazine contacted me and invited for an interview, as they focus on presenting talented artists in a number of fields.

For several years, I have lived in Vienna, where I work as a freelance artist and cooperate with creative agencies. In 2017, my short animated film inspired by Jean Miro painting Insects took part in the Augmented Reality meets Albertina project presented during the Monet to Picasso exhibition in Albertina Museum in Vienna.

 

In 2018, I designed and created magazine cover for The Metropole – Vienna in English magazine. I directed, art directed and created a short animated film Henri Matisse Blue Nudes that was screened at Oxymoron Galerie in Vienna when showcasing Augment Reality Art as part of Digital Design Days 2018 at VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The same animated film was screened at Forward Festival for Creativity, Design and Communication Vienna in 2019, REALITIES Augmented Reality Show in Bulgaria in 2019, Open Austria exhibition in the United States in 2019, Augmented Reality art exhibition in Thailand in 2019.

 

In the same year, I exhibited my animated films in collaboration with fine art artist Dariusz Biegaj and The MajorDesign Creative Agency based in Vienna. The exhibition took place in Poland and combined traditional painting and animated film through hi-tech Augmented Reality. It was the first exhibition of this kind in Poland. In 2020, one of my animated films was screened at the FANTOCHE International Animation Film Festival during the 1. Animated Women AR portrait exhibition in Switzerland.
